School Performances

The Philippines Live from the Islands!

Teachers!  Looking for a field trip for your students?  As part of the 2012 Salute to the Philippines, Memphis in May International Festival presents The Philippines, Live from the Islands!  at the Orpheum Theatre during International Week.   This performance is specifically designed to share the culture of the honored country with students through martial arts, music, and dance - live.  The magic of Manila hits the stage with Bayanihan the National Dance Company of the Philippines.  The troupe epitomizes the spirit of Filipino folkloric dance and traditions, translated into the modern stage.  The dramatic world of Filipino martial arts unfolds on the stage with an exciting showcase from the Worldwide Family of Modern Arnis.  See the evolution of one of the best-known martial arts in the world filled with beauty, grace and lethal power.

The performances are an excellent complement to any of the Memphis in May classroom programs or competitions and are offered FREE of charge to schools.   This year YOUR students can experience the sights and sounds of the Philippines!

The Philippines, Live from the Islands! School Performances Orpheum Theatre Wednesday May 9 & Thursday May 10 at 10:00 AM   Performances will last approximately 90 minutes.  There is no cost for students or chaperones to attend.  Schools should provide transportation to and from the show.   Limited seating, first come – first served basis.  Download and fill out the application form to request your seats today!

In-School Filipino Performances

Looking for a program to bring to your school?  As part of the 2012 Salute to the Philippines, Memphis in May International Festival presents the 2012 Filipino In-School Performances!   This year’s In-School Performances feature the national martial art of the Philippines demonstrated by Worldwide Family of Modern Arnis.

YOUR students can have the opportunity to see the traditional martial arts of the Philippines right in your own school!   The performances will be on Monday May 14, Tuesday May 15, Wednesday May 16, and Thursday May 17 during regular school hours in conjunction with the schools’ schedules. There is no cost to schools for hosting a performance.  Download and fill out the application form to request an in-school performance!
